Statement by the President on Holocaust Remembrance Day

On the third International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, we remember and mourn. Remembering the victims, heroes, and educating about the lessons of the Holocaust remains important today. Educating children of the world about the facts of one of the darkest moments in history is fundamental to ensuring that we avoid such tragedies in the future. In October 2007 at the 33rd General Conference, the United States, Russia, Australia, Canada, and Israel submitted a resolution on Holocaust education and it was adopted by consensus by the 193 member states of UNESCO, affirming UNESCO's role in building peace and tolerance through education.
