Towards a New Global Framework on Cutting Greenhouse Gases
January, 2008

A senior U.S. official spoke on climate change on January 24, 2008, and emphasized the need to identify ways to foster economic growth while simultaneously addressing the issue of greenhouse gases.

He stated that the U.S. "can-do," goal-oriented, results-oriented society can offer solutions through innovation, imagination and technology to help make both poverty and increasing emissions history.

The United States is discussing climate change in multilateral settings and with partners around the world. It is also working with UNESCO to examine how climate change affects World Heritage sites and is participating in UNESCO's launch of the UN's International Year of Planet Earth. Global frameworks to address the challenge are vital, and the U.S. is pleased to contribute to discussions and solutions on this important topic.
