The UNESCO Education For All (EFA) High Level Group Meeting
December, 2007
The UNESCO Education For All (EFA) High Level Group meeting took place in Dakar, Senegal from December 11-13, 2007. The United States participated actively in the meeting, with a Delegation led by U.S. Ambassador to UNESCO Louise V. Oliver that included two senior officials from USAID.

Midway to the 2015 target date, this year’s meeting focused on ways to achieve EFA goals. Ministers, donors, and multilateral and civil society representatives discussed measures for 2008 and beyond, that would address the three primary themes of the meeting - excluded groups, education quality and the financing of basic education.

Meeting in Dakar, where the six EFA goals were originally adopted in 2000, participants recognized that “we are now in a position to know better what works in basic education, but the current pace of progress is not sufficient to meet the 2015 target.”

The United States strongly supports UNESCO’s goal of ensuring every child has access to a quality education by 2015.
