Scott Momaday Speaks at UNESCO
In a June 22 roundtable discussion at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, UNESCO Artist for Peace and Native American poet, novelist, painter, Pulitzer Prize winner and story-teller, Scott Momaday joined Canadian and French anthropologists to discuss the importance of cultural heritage and dignity. Momaday is the first American named as a UNESCO Artist for Peace since the U.S. return to UNESCO in 2003. His current work focuses on the preservation of indigenous culture and outreach to indigenous youths who find it difficult to hold on to their cultural identities in modern society.
