About the U.S. Mission to UNESCO
The U.S. Mission to UNESCO is proud to be a part of the President’s vision to advance human rights, tolerance and learning throughout the world. Ambassador Louise V. Oliver was named by President George W. Bush as Permanent Representative of the United States to the UNESCO and holds the rank of Ambassador and Permanent Delegate. She was sworn in on February 12, 2004.

Our Deputy Permanent Delegate, Stephen Engelken holds the rank of Minister Counselor and has served in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Italy, France, Australia, and Washington. He arrived at the U.S. Mission to UNESCO in June of 2007.

The staff of the U.S. Mission includes representatives from the Department of State (Deputy Chief of Mission, Legal and Public Affairs Sections), the Department of Education (Education Attaché) and the Department of Health and Human Services (Health Attaché). The National Science Foundation is represented by the Science Attaché.
